Cicero, Illinois (NED).— Los residentes de Illinois que envían dinero a familiares en el extranjero también podrán ayudar a los Dreamers a pagar una educación universitaria en Illinois según la legislación presentada por la representante estatal Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero.
“Este proyecto de ley es un paso importante para apoyar los sueños y aspiraciones de nuestros jóvenes”, dijo Hernández. “El Illinois DREAM Fund brinda becas y asistencia a los hijos de inmigrantes que desean obtener una educación superior pero enfrentan dificultades financieras”.
Dado que muchos residentes que viven y trabajan en Illinois envían una parte de sus ingresos a familiares que viven fuera de los Estados Unidos, Hernández presentó el Proyecto de Ley 3233 de la Cámara de Representantes, que permitirá que esas personas también respalden el Illinois DREAM Fund, que sirve para ayudar a financiar altos estudiantes nacidos fuera de los Estados Unidos y traídos cuando eran niños que no son elegibles para subvenciones federales cuando solicitan ingreso a la universidad en los Estados Unidos. House Bill 3233 permite a los clientes de cambio de divisas que envían dinero al extranjero para redondear voluntariamente las tarifas de transacción al dólar más cercano para apoyar el Fondo DREAM.
“Me enorgullece presentar este proyecto de ley que tendrá un impacto positivo en la vida de nuestra juventud”, dijo Hernández. “Creo que es esencial que brindemos oportunidades a todos nuestros estudiantes, independientemente de su origen. Al redondear sus transacciones, los clientes de todo el estado pueden hacer una pequeña contribución que contribuirá en gran medida a ayudar a los estudiantes que de otro modo no calificarían para las subvenciones federales a tener la oportunidad de perseguir sus sueños y alcanzar su máximo potencial”.

Hernandez Introduces Legislation to Further Strengthen DREAM Fund for Dreamers in Illinois
Cicero, Illinois (NED).— Illinois residents sending money to family overseas will also be able to help Dreamers afford a college education in Illinois under legislation introduced by state Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero.
“This bill is an important step in supporting our young people’s dreams and aspirations,” Hernandez said. “The Illinois DREAM Fund provides scholarships and assistance to children of immigrants who want to pursue higher education but face financial hardships.”
As many residents living and working in Illinois send a portion of their income to family members living outside of the United States, Hernandez has filed House Bill 3233, which will allow those individuals to also support the Illinois DREAM Fund, which serves to help finance high schoolers born outside the United States and brought over as children who are not eligible for federal grants when applying to college in the United States. House Bill 3233 allows currency exchange customers sending money overseas to voluntarily round up the transaction fees to the nearest dollar to support the DREAM Fund.
“I am proud to introduce this bill that will have a positive impact on the lives of our youth,” Hernandez said. “I believe it is essential that we provide opportunities for all of our students, regardless of their background. By rounding up their transactions, customers statewide can make a small contribution that will go a long way to help students who otherwise don’t qualify for federal grants a chance to pursue their dreams and achieve their full potential.”
Hernandez has long supported children of immigrants. She recognizes the challenges that these individuals face when pursuing higher education. She will continue to advocate for legislation to help provide financial assistance for students statewide.
