Chicago, Illinois (NED).– Hoy, el PAC para la Prevención de la Violencia con Armas (G-PAC) emitió la siguiente declaración de John Schmidt, ex Fiscal General Adjunto de EE. UU. y miembro de la Junta Ejecutiva del G-PAC, en respuesta a los informes de que el Tribunal de Apelaciones del Séptimo Circuito se ha negado a emitir una orden judicial contra la prohibición de armas de asalto de Illinois.
“Acogemos con beneplácito la decisión de hoy de la Corte de Apelaciones del Séptimo Circuito de denegar la moción de un traficante de armas de Naperville para prohibir la nueva prohibición de armas de asalto y cargadores de gran capacidad en Illinois, mientras el traficante continúa su desafío judicial contra la nueva ley. La impugnación del traficante de armas fue inicialmente rechazada por la jueza del Tribunal de Distrito Virginia Kendall, quien consideró que la nueva ley era “constitucionalmente sólida”. La apelación del traficante de armas de esa decisión ahora será escuchada por el Tribunal de Apelaciones durante los próximos meses.
“Mientras avanza la apelación, la nueva ley permanecerá plenamente vigente y los ciudadanos de Illinois seguirán beneficiándose de su protección contra la venta de armas y cargadores de estilo militar que permiten a los tiradores disparar rondas masivas de balas”.

Appeals Court Denies Motion to Naperville Gun Dealer
Chicago, Illinois (NED).– Today, the Gun Violence Prevention PAC (G-PAC) released the following statement from John Schmidt, a former U.S. Associate Attorney General and member of the Executive Board of G-PAC, in response to reports that the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has denied to enter an injunction against Illinois’ assault weapons ban.
“We welcome the decision today by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to deny the motion by a Naperville gun dealer to enjoin the new Illinois ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines, while the dealer continues his court challenge against the new law. The gun dealer’s challenge was initially rejected by District Court Judge Virginia Kendall who found the new law “constitutionally sound.” The gun dealer’s appeaI from that decision will now be heard by the Court of Appeals over the next several months.
“While the appeal goes forward, the new law will remain fully in effect, and Illinois citizens will continue to benefit from its protection against the sale of military-style weapons and magazines that enable shooters to fire massive rounds of bullets.”
The Gun Violence Prevention Political Action Committee (G-PAC) is the state’s leading gun violence advocacy organization. It was founded in 2013 to counter the political influence of the gun industry and their lobby in Springfield.
