Washington — El miércoles, la administración Biden ofreció a casi medio millón de inmigrantes venezolanos en Estados Unidos la posibilidad de vivir y trabajar legalmente en el país, aprobando una solicitud de larga data de ciudades que luchan por albergar a los solicitantes de asilo.
Anthony D. Romero, director ejecutivo de la Unión Estadounidense por las Libertades Civiles, declaró: “Aplaudimos la acción decisiva de la administración Biden sobre el TPS para Venezuela.
“Durante años, muchos venezolanos que huyen de la violencia y la persecución han soportado largos viajes a través de medio continente, sólo para llegar y encontrar cerrada la puerta a la protección estadounidense. Hoy, con la redesignación del TPS para Venezuela, cientos de miles de venezolanos que han llegado a este país estarán a salvo de la deportación por ahora y podrán trabajar para mantener a sus familias y comunidades”, dijo Romero.
El anuncio es una victoria fundamental en la lucha por un sistema de inmigración más humano y traerá cambios positivos reales a nuestras comunidades y vecinos. También brinda cierto alivio a las ciudades que han albergado y apoyado generosamente a familias e individuos, incluidos muchos de Venezuela, que comienzan sus vidas en los Estados Unidos.

Venezuelans obtain a victory with TPS
Washington — The Biden administration on Wednesday offered nearly half-a-million Venezuelan migrants in the U.S. the ability to live and work in the country legally, approving a longstanding request from cities struggling to house asylum-seekers.
Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, had the following reaction: “We applaud the Biden administration’s decisive action on TPS for Venezuela.
“For years, many Venezuelans fleeing violence and persecution have endured long journeys across half a continent, only to arrive to find the door to U.S. protection closed. Today, with the redesignation of TPS for Venezuela, hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans who have come to this country will be safe from deportation for now, and able to work to support their families and communities”, said Romero.
This announcement is a critical victory in the fight for a more humane immigration system, and will bring real positive change to our communities and neighbors. It also brings a measure of relief to cities that have generously housed and supported families and individuals, including many from Venezuela, as they start their lives in the United States.
