Oak Park, Illinois (NED).— Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation anunció los beneficiarios de sus subvenciones comunitarias 2024-25, otorgando $265,000 a 18 organizaciones sin fines de lucro en Oak Park, River Forest y comunidades vecinas. El programa de subvenciones comunitarias es un proceso a través del cual las organizaciones sin fines de lucro solicitan fondos para apoyar operaciones generales o necesidades específicas. En 2023, la Fundación detuvo el programa para evaluar y revisar sus operaciones de concesión de subvenciones para alinearlas con su misión mejorada. Después de un proceso de un año de búsqueda de datos, investigación y entrevistas, la Fundación anunció su decisión de centrar la concesión de subvenciones en la intersección de dos áreas prioritarias identificadas en su histórico informe Community Voices: seguridad y pertenencia, y salud.
Como resultado, el ciclo de subvenciones comunitarias 2024-25 priorizó las propuestas que se centran en crear vías hacia una fuerza laboral sólida y representativa de profesionales de la salud mental y conductual; o facilitar el acceso y/o la prestación de servicios o tratamiento para jóvenes y adultos jóvenes. Más de las tres cuartas partes de las subvenciones de este año abordarán el objetivo prioritario de acceso y tratamiento. $265,000 Awarded to Community Organizations Focused on Mental and Behavioral Health for Youth and Young Adults
Oak Park, Illinois (NED).— The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation announced the recipients of its 2024-25 Community Grants, awarding $265,000 to 18 nonprofit organizations in Oak Park, River Forest and neighboring communities. This year’s grants advance the Foundation’s strategic priority of mental and behavioral health for youth and young adults. Grant recipients are listed below.
“We are pleased to have received so many excellent proposals, and the grantees offer services through the entire West Cook region, from Elmwood Park to Berwyn and from Melrose Park to Austin,” said Tony Martinez, Jr., president and CEO of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation. “Our new grantmaking strategy is responsive to the community’s expressed needs, determined through a process that engenders equity, trust, and inclusion. It is very important during these stressful times to continue supporting the organizations that lift up our community and provide resources to those most vulnerable.”
The Community Grants program is a process through which nonprofit organizations apply for funding to support general operations or specific needs. In 2023, the Foundation paused the program in order to evaluate and revise its grantmaking operations to align with its enhanced mission. After a year-long process of fact-finding, research and interviews, the Foundation announced its decision to focus grantmaking on the intersection of two priority areas identified in its landmark Community Voices report: Safety and Belonging, and Health.
As a result, the 2024-25 Community Grants cycle prioritized proposals that focus on creating pathways to a robust, representative workforce of mental and behavioral health professionals; or facilitate access to and/or provision of services or treatment for youth and young adults. More than three quarters of this year’s grantees will address the priority goal of access and treatment. Half of the awarded grants included a workforce development component, and a third address aspects of safety and belonging.

Martinez noted that the 2024-25 grant round is a bridge year for the Community Grants program. The program’s focus will be further refined this year by a steering committee made up of Foundation board and staff, grantees, and members of the West Cook community to develop a multi-year grants process. The multi-year program will include convenings and shared decision-making, and will bolster opportunities for advocacy and other systemic change.
