Downers Grove, Illinois (NED).— El tráfico en el puente de Plainfield Road sobre la autopista de peaje Tri-State (I-294) en Western Springs se programó para cambiar esta semana, ya que la autopista de peaje de Illinois trabaja para concluir el proyecto de reconstrucción del puente de varios años. A partir de las 9 a. m. del jueves 4 de mayo, Plainfield Road quedó reducida a un solo carril para cambiar el tráfico en el puente. Los abanderados se utilizarán para mantener el tráfico bidireccional durante este trabajo. Una vez que se complete el cambio, el tráfico se reabrirá a un carril en cada dirección. Está previsto que el tráfico permanezca en esta configuración durante unos dos meses.
El cambio de tráfico es necesario para crear una zona de trabajo mientras se construye una nueva barrera protectora para separar el tráfico de la carretera del nuevo carril para bicicletas/usos múltiples y la acera en el lado sur del puente.
Una vez que se complete este trabajo, el tráfico se cambiará a su configuración final con algunos trabajos menores programados para continuar durante el verano.
La nueva estructura del puente Plainfield Road brindará un carril de tráfico y arcenes anchos en cada dirección. Para facilitar el acceso local para peatones y bicicletas, se incluirá una acera protegida en el lado norte del puente y se construirá una nueva acera y un sendero protegido para bicicletas/usos múltiples en el lado sur.
El trabajo adicional en este proyecto incluyó la restauración de muros de contención y ruidos, construcción de alcantarillado, trabajos de servicios públicos, mejoras de iluminación, paisajismo y drenaje.

Traffic change scheduled on Plainfield Road near Western Springs
The bridge reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed this summer
Downers Grove, Illinois (NED).— Traffic on the Plainfield Road bridge over the Tri-State Turnpike (I-294) in Western Springs is scheduled to change this week as the Illinois Turnpike works to complete the multi-year bridge reconstruction project. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction.
Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place to alert drivers to lane closures and changing traffic patterns. Up-to-date information regarding closures will be available in the Illinois Tollway’s Daily Construction Alert. All work is weather dependent.
Starting at 9 a.m. m. on Thursday, May 4, Plainfield Road was reduced to one lane to shift traffic on the bridge. Flaggers will be used to maintain two-way traffic during this job. Once the change is complete, traffic will reopen to one lane in each direction. The traffic is expected to remain in this configuration for about two months.
The traffic shift is necessary to create a work zone while a new protective barrier is built to separate roadway traffic from the new bicycle/multi-use path and sidewalk on the south side of the bridge.
Once this work is complete, traffic will be shifted into its final configuration with some minor work scheduled to continue through the summer.
The new Plainfield Road Bridge structure will provide for one lane of traffic and wide shoulders in each direction. To provide for local pedestrian and bicycle access, a protected sidewalk will be included on the north side of the bridge and a new a protected bicycle/multi-use path and sidewalk will be built on the south side.
Additional work on this project included restoration of retaining and noisewalls, sewer construction, utility work, lighting, landscaping and drainage improvements.
The Plainfield Road Bridge Project includes the reconstruction of the local road bridge carrying Plainfield Road traffic over the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). The existing structures were removed and rebuilt with a new, longer and higher bridge structure to accommodate the reconstruction and widening of the Central Tri-State Tollway. In addition, Cook County is currently conducting a study for the improvements of Plainfield Road, and the new bridge is being built to ensure compatibility with future plans. Up to 14,200 vehicles use the bridge daily.
This project is being coordinated with Cook County, Village of Burr Ridge, Village of Indian Head Park and Village of Western Springs, as well as local fire and police departments.
The $4 billion Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Project is reconstructing and widening the roadway between Balmoral Avenue and 95th Street to provide congestion relief, update old infrastructure to meet current and future transportation demand and address regional needs. This work is part of the Tollway’s 15-year, $14 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future. More than 220,000 vehicles use the Central Tri-State Tollway daily.
