Washington, DC – La Administración de Trump emitió hoy un nuevo memorando que sienta las bases para eliminar el programa DACA. Si bien muchos medios de comunicación se están ejecutando con un análisis de primera línea que el nuevo memo “extiende” el programa durante un año, la realidad es que el programa se está eliminando en fases.
Frank Sharry, Director Ejecutivo de America’s Voice dice: La administración Trump se está moviendo para terminar con DACA de una vez por todas. Su primer paso es un memorando de Bill Barr que rescinde a DACA, lo que impide que unos 300,000 jóvenes inmigrantes que son elegibles para DACA disfruten de las extraordinarias oportunidades que ofrece DACA. Su segundo paso es dar una extensión acortada de un año a aquellos que actualmente tienen DACA con la esperanza de terminar el programa de una vez por todas si Trump es reelegido.
Si no fuera por la popularidad masiva de DACA, la administración se habría movido agresivamente para terminar ese programa de una sola vez. Quieren afirmar que están haciendo lo correcto por aquellos con DACA para limitar el daño político que terminaría de una vez.
No te dejes engañar. Tan pronto como puedan en podrán en camino a la deportación a más de un millón de jóvenes inmigrantes que crecieron en Estados Unidos y que es único país que la mayoría conoce, que jurado lealtad a la bandera todos los días en la escuela, que luchan por conseguir trabajo y estudiar en la universidad, y construir familias.
Hace mucho tiempo que este país reconoce formalmente a los Dreamers como los estadounidenses que ya son. HR 6, la Ley de Sueños y Promesas aprobada de manera bipartidista en la Cámara de Representantes el año pasado, es la solución permanente que se necesita con urgencia. Si, como se esperaba, los republicanos en el Senado continúan bloqueándolo, lo menos que el Senado puede hacer es promulgar las renovaciones automáticas de los permisos de trabajo para los beneficiarios de DACA y los titulares de TPS que la Cámara incluyó en la Ley HEROES.
Trump y sus facilitadores han librado una guerra implacable contra los inmigrantes desde la primera semana de su presidencia. En respuesta, el pueblo estadounidense se ha visto obligado a elegir entre la sangre y el nacionalismo del suelo del Trumpismo o la América multirracial y multiétnica celebrada en nuestro lema nacional, E Pluribus Unum. La mayoría ha elegido, y rechazan la división, el racismo y la xenofobia de Trump.
La mejor manera de proteger a los Dreamers y avanzar con un camino hacia una solución permanente para todos los inmigrantes indocumentados es derrotar a Trump en noviembre, cambiar el Senado del control republicano a una mayoría demócrata y promulgar una legislación que sirva a nuestros intereses y refleje nuestros valores.

Washington, DC – A new memo that lays the groundwork for eliminating the DACA program was issued today by the Trump Administration. While many news outlets are running with a topline analysis that the new memo “extends” the program for one year, the reality is that the program is being killed in phases.
The following is a statement by Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice:
The Trump administration is moving to end DACA once and for all. Their first step is a Bill Barr memo that rescinds DACA, thereby blocking some 300,000 young immigrants who are eligible for DACA from enjoying the extraordinary opportunities that DACA affords. Their second step is to give a shortened extension of one year to those currently with DACA in hopes of ending the program once and for all if and when Trump gets reelected.
If not for the massive popularity of DACA, the administration would have aggressively moved to end that program in one fell swoop. They want to claim they are doing right by those with DACA to limit the political damage ending it all at once would cause.
Don’t be fooled. As soon as they can get away with it, they will put more than one million young immigrants who grew up in America — pledging allegiance to the flag every day in school, fighting to get jobs and study in college, and building families — on a path to deportation from the only country most have even known.
It is long overdue that this country formally recognize Dreamers as the Americans they already are. HR 6, the Dream and Promise Act approved on a bipartisan basis in the House of Representatives last year, is the permanent solution that is sorely needed. If, as expected, Republicans in the Senate continue to block it, then the least the Senate can do is enact the automatic renewals of work permits for DACA recipients and TPS holders that the House included in the HEROES Act.
Trump and his enablers have waged a relentless war on immigrants since the first week of his presidency. In response, the American people have been forced to make a choice between the blood and soil nationalism of Trumpism or the multiracial, multiethnic America celebrated in our national motto, E Pluribus Unum. The majority has chosen, and they reject Trump’s divisiveness, racism and xenophobia.
The best way to protect Dreamers and to move forward with a path to a permanent solution for all undocumented immigrants is to defeat Trump this November, to flip the Senate from Republican control to a Democratic majority, and to enact legislation that serves our interests and reflects our values.
