Chicago, Illinois (NED).– La siguiente es una declaración de la maestra de las Escuelas Públicas de Chicago y candidata a concejal del distrito 36, Lori Torres Whitt, luego del impactante descubrimiento del miércoles de que el alcalde Lightfoot envió una solicitud de campaña poco ética para estudiantes voluntarios a los maestros:
“La alcaldesa Lightfoot ha dejado en claro desde el primer día de su administración que no respeta a los maestros. Se ha burlado de nuestros clamores por enfermeras, bibliotecarias y trabajadoras sociales en todas las escuelas. Nos ignoraron cuando señalamos servicios de educación especial dañinamente inadecuados. Amenazó con despedir a mis dos colegas de Washington High School por luchar contra el racismo ambiental”.
“Ahora, en un intento desesperado por reclutar voluntarios, la alcaldesa Lightfoot ha mostrado un total desprecio por las reglas que espera que otros sigan. Al igual que el concejal Gil Villegas, cuya firma de cabildeo representó a los vendedores de la ciudad incluso cuando estaba ganando votos como líder de piso del alcalde Lightfoot, el alcalde Lightfoot está tratando de manipular el sistema a su favor mientras el resto de nosotros cumplimos con las reglas”.
“Nuestra comunidad en el nuevo distrito 36 no puede permitirse más líderes como Lori Lightfoot y Gil Villegas que juegan con el sistema en lugar de servir a las familias trabajadoras. Es hora de que tengamos líderes en el Ayuntamiento que escuchen las necesidades de los maestros y las familias, y que no los apunten por motivaciones políticas insignificantes”.

CPS Teacher & Aldermanic Candidate Lori Torres Whitt Demands Mayor Lightfoot Be Held to Same Ethical Standards as Teachers She Has Targeted
Chicago, Illinois (NED).– The following is a statement from Chicago Public Schools teacher and aldermanic candidate of the 36th Ward, Lori Torres Whitt, following Wednesday’s shocking discovery that Mayor Lightfoot sent an unethical campaign solicitation for student volunteers to teachers:
“Mayor Lightfoot has made it clear from day one of her administration that she has no respect for teachers. She has scoffed at our cries for nurses, librarians and social workers in every school. Ignored us when we have pointed to harmfully inadequate special education services. Threatened to fire my two colleagues from Washington High School for fighting back against environmental racism.”
“Now in a desperate attempt to recruit volunteers, Mayor Lightfoot has shown a total disregard for the rules she expects others to follow. Just like Alderman Gil Villegas, whose lobbying firm represented city vendors even while he was whipping votes as Mayor Lightfoot’s floor leader, Mayor Lightfoot is trying to rig the system in her favor while the rest of us play by the rules.”
“Our community in the new 36th ward can’t afford any more leaders like Lori Lightfoot and Gil Villegas who game the system instead of serving working families. It’s time we had leaders in City Hall who will listen to the needs of teachers and families–not target them for petty political motivations.”
