García anuncia el respaldo del congresista Chuy Garcia, SEIU, ATU, IAM, el Sindicato de Carpinteros y varios funcionarios progresistas
Cicero, Illinois (NED).– Este martes, la demócrata progresista Patty García lanzó su campaña para el Congreso por el 4.º Distrito Congresional de Illinois. García aspira a suceder al congresista Jesús “Chuy” García, quien se jubila.
El lanzamiento de la campaña se llevó a cabo en La Chiquita, un supermercado local donde García tuvo su primer trabajo en la adolescencia. Rodeada de familiares, amigos y simpatizantes, García reflexionó sobre las lecciones aprendidas detrás del mostrador: lecciones sobre el trabajo duro, la dignidad y la justicia que la han guiado desde entonces.
“En este trabajo, conocí a innumerables mujeres que se esforzaban al máximo para poder llevar comida a sus familias. Aprendí lo que significa trabajar duro, escuchar y ser parte de algo más grande que uno mismo”, dijo Patty García, candidata al Congreso (IL-04). “Esos mismos valores son la razón por la que me postulo al Congreso. Porque ahora mismo, demasiadas personas en nuestra comunidad no pueden progresar, sin importar cómo trabajen. Es hora de que haya líderes en el Congreso con el valor de luchar por los trabajadores”.

A García se unió a un grupo diverso de personas que la respaldaron, incluyendo líderes sindicales del Sindicato Internacional de Empleados de Servicios (SEIU), el Sindicato de Tránsito Unificado (ATU), el Consejo Regional de Carpinteros del Medio Oeste y la Asociación Internacional de Maquinistas (IAM).
“Algunos podrían pensar que Patty es una cara nueva, pero créanme: quienes la conocemos sabemos que la oficina del 4.º Distrito Congresional no se llevaría a cabo sin ella”, dijo Brenda Bedolla, Coordinadora Política Municipal y del Condado de SEIU. “Tiene mucha experiencia. Patty García ha sido fundamental para el éxito del congresista García”.
También la acompañaron Evelyn García, los senadores estatales Celina Villanueva y Javier Cervantes, y los representantes estatales Aaron Ortiz, Edgar González y Norma Hernández. Patty conoce los problemas, conoce a las personas clave en Washington y tiene el talento y la dedicación para lograr resultados reales para las familias trabajadoras. Nuestro distrito será más fuerte con Patty en el Congreso y me enorgullece respaldarla”.
“He visto a Patty García unir a la gente, no para las cámaras, sino para lograr un cambio real. “Mi primer trabajo en política fue junto a Patty García, enfrentándonos a la maquinaria política de Chicago y a los poderosos intereses que la respaldan”, dijo la senadora Celina Villanueva. “Patty nunca ha tenido miedo de decir la verdad al poder y luchar por la clase trabajadora, porque para ella, hacer lo correcto es más importante que hacer lo fácil”.
“Patty ha estado al frente de la lucha por nuestras familias inmigrantes, respondiendo con rapidez en momentos de crisis y en las batallas cotidianas que no llegan a los titulares. Cuando nuestras comunidades fueron atacadas, y aún lo son, Patty estuvo presente”, dijo la comisionada Alma Anaya. “Ese es el tipo de liderazgo que necesitamos en el Congreso, y el tipo de colaboración que todos los niveles de gobierno desean: alguien que comprenda la urgencia, luche por nosotros y cumpla sus promesas”.
“En momentos como este, cuando la valentía ha escaseado en el Congreso, Patty García aportará un liderazgo firme a Washington en favor de las familias trabajadoras”, dijo el representante Abdelnasser Rashid. “Ella sabe que nadie debería tener que elegir entre pagar el alquiler, comprar comida o costear la atención médica. Patty luchará por la justicia y la dignidad de las personas, tanto aquí como en el extranjero”.
A García también la acompañaron sus padres, José Antonio y Paty, y sus hermanas Yadira y Andrea García.
“Nuestro distrito tiene la mayor proporción de niños en la región metropolitana de Chicago, y merecen algo mejor”, dijo Patty García. “Necesitamos abordar la crisis del costo de vida. Necesitamos una política migratoria que ofrezca una vía a la ciudadanía a los residentes de larga data y que trate a los inmigrantes con dignidad. Y necesitamos exigirles cuentas a los multimillonarios que están erosionando nuestra democracia”.
De ser elegida, García será la primera mujer en representar al 4.º distrito de Illinois en el Congreso y la primera mujer mexicoamericana en representar al Medio Oeste.
Patty García nació y creció en el 4.º distrito, hija de inmigrantes mexicanos. Obtuvo su doctorado en estudios de política educativa por la Universidad de Illinois en 2011 y comenzó su carrera enfrentándose a la maquinaria política de Chicago y a los poderosos intereses que la financian. Patty ha trabajado extensamente en la participación electoral, ha capacitado a líderes afroamericanos y latinos para postularse a cargos públicos y ha contribuido al éxito de varios distritos republicanos. Como jefa de gabinete del congresista Chuy García, Patty ayudó a conseguir más de 50 millones de dólares en fondos federales para centros juveniles, hospitales, mitigación de inundaciones y la eliminación de plomo de los sistemas de agua potable.
A lo largo de su trayectoria, Patty ha luchado para que las familias del 4.º distrito tengan acceso a las mismas oportunidades que forjaron su propio camino desde Little Village hasta el Congreso.

Garcia Announces Endorsements from Congressman Chuy Garcia, SEIU, ATU, IAM, Carpenters Union, and Slate of Downballot Progressive Officials
Cicero, Illinois (NED).– This Tuesday, Progressive Democrat Patty Garcia launched her campaign for Congress in Illinois’ 4th Congressional District. Garcia is running to succeed retiring Congressman Jesus ‘Chuy’ Garcia.
The campaign launch was held at La Chiquita, a local grocery store where Garcia got her first job as a teenager. Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, Garcia reflected on the lessons learned behind the counter — lessons about hard work, dignity, and fairness that have guided her ever since.
“At this job, I met countless women who stretched every dollar they had to keep food on the table. I learned what it means to work hard, to listen, and to be part of something bigger than yourself,” said Patty Garcia, candidate for Congress (IL-04). “Those same values are why I’m running for Congress. Because right now, too many people in our community can’t get ahead, no matter how they work. It’s time for leaders in Congress with the courage to actually fight for working people.”
Garcia was joined by a diverse group of endorsers, including labor leaders from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, and the International Association of Machinists (IAM).

We need an immigration policy that provides a pathway to citizenship to longtime residents and treats immigrants with dignity. And we need to hold the billionaires who are eroding our democracy accountable.”
If elected, Garcia will be the first woman to represent Illinois’ 4th district in Congress and the first Mexican-American woman to represent the Midwest.
Patty Garcia was born and raised in the 4th district as the daughter of Mexican immigrants. She earned her doctorate in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois in 2011 and began her career taking on the Chicago machine and the powerful interests that fund it. Patty has worked extensively in voter engagement, trained Black and Latino leaders to run for office and successfully helped flip several Republican districts. As Chief of Staff to Congressman Chuy García, Patty helped secure over $50 million in federal funding for youth centers, hospitals, flood mitigation, and removing lead from water systems.
Throughout her career, Patty has fought for the families of the 4th district to have access to the same opportunities that shaped her own journey from Little Village to the halls of Congress.
