Chicago, Illinois (NED). – Este sábado, nueve equipos de mujeres jóvenes pisaron el acelerador a fondo en el segundo EV Rally anual de ComEd. Mujeres jóvenes de toda el área de Chiago postularon y fueron seleccionadas para participar en esta emocionante oportunidad de aprender sobre vehículos eléctricos (EV), principios de ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM) y carreras de energía limpia mientras se conectan con mentores femeninos de ComEd. Cada uno de los 45 estudiantes que corrieron recibirá una beca de $2,000 por completar el programa.
Después de 3 series de carreras enérgicas y una ronda final tensa, el equipo Lilac Laser obtuvo el primer lugar, sosteniendo el trofeo de ganadores en alto. Los miembros del equipo eran:
- Ariel Gray, estudiante de tercer año en Hansberry College Prep
- Vivienne DeRosa, estudiante de segundo año en ascenso en la escuela secundaria John Hersey
- Elizabeth Meza, estudiante de tercer año en Joliet Central High School
- Francis Woods, estudiante de último año en Lane Tech College Prep High School
- Rachel Chen, estudiante de último año en Metea Valley High School
Después de 3 series de carreras enérgicas y una ronda final tensa, el equipo Lilac Laser obtuvo el primer lugar, sosteniendo el trofeo de ganadores en alto.
“Este emocionante programa es una forma divertida para que los adolescentes salgan del aula y experimenten STEM en un entorno práctico rodeado de compañeros con ideas afines”, dijo Michelle Blaise, vicepresidenta sénior de servicios técnicos de ComEd. “La transición a la energía limpia se acerca rápidamente, y ComEd está trabajando para garantizar que tengamos una fuente diversa de talento lista para desempeñar estos nuevos roles y apoyar a nuestras comunidades en evolución”.
El ComEd EV Rally está diseñado para preparar a la próxima generación de la fuerza laboral de energía limpia, al mismo tiempo que ayuda a cerrar la brecha de género en STEM. Las mujeres jóvenes de Illinois, entre las edades de 13 y 18 años, eran elegibles para solicitar el programa. Los equipos de estudiantes trabajaron con mentoras de ComEd durante cuatro días de construcción para ensamblar karts eléctricos de alta tecnología mientras aprendían sobre una variedad de oportunidades profesionales en STEM.

The Lilac Laser Team Blasted Their Way to Victory
Chicago, Illinois (NED). – This Saturday, nine teams of young women put their pedals to the metal in ComEd’s second annual EV Rally. Young women from across Chicagoland applied and were selected to participate in this exciting opportunity to learn about electric vehicles (EVs), science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles and clean energy careers while connecting with female ComEd mentors. Each of the 45 students who raced will receive a $2,000 scholarship for completing the program.
After 3 heats of spirited racing and a tense final round, the Lilac Laser team took first place, holding the winners’ trophy up high. The team’s members were:
- Ariel Gray, rising junior at Hansberry College Prep
- Vivienne DeRosa, rising sophomore at John Hersey High School
- Elizabeth Meza, rising junior at Joliet Central High School
- Francis Woods, rising senior at Lane Tech College Prep High School
- Rachel Chen, rising senior at Metea Valley High School

“This exciting program is a fun way for teens to get out of the classroom and experience STEM in a hands-on environment surrounded by like-minded peers,” said Michelle Blaise, senior vice president of technical services at ComEd. “The clean energy transition is coming quickly, and ComEd is working to ensure that we have a diverse pipeline of talent ready to fill these new roles and support our evolving communities.”
The ComEd EV Rally is designed to prepare the next generation of the clean energy workforce, while simultaneously helping bridge the gender gap in STEM. Young women from Illinois, between the ages of 13 and 18, were eligible to apply for the program. The student teams worked with ComEd women mentors over four build days to assemble high-tech, electric go-karts while learning about a variety of career opportunities in STEM.
